BOTTOMS UP The COMPANY (bottomsup.ca inc.)
The Directors, Management and Advisory Board of BOTTOMS UP are a diversified group of individuals: men and women, gay and straight, young and old, HIV positive people, and cancer survivors, along with those with an interest in fashion, looking good, and being comfortable.
We conducted many focus groups to arrive at the goals of BOTTOMS UP. With backgrounds in retail, fashion design, and manufacturing, our research & development team assembled every possible style and make of padded underwear available in today's market for comparison purposes. We also realized that we would be the first and only company specializing in the design, manufacture and retailing of shape enhancing (padded) garments and accessories for both men and women!
First, we identified OUR CUSTOMERS - Both men and women; people who encountered muscle and flesh loss due to their HIV meds (lipodystrophy); people who had suffered weight loss from the ravages of cancer and other serious illnesses; and of course those who just didn't have the shape they desired. OUR GOAL - We had to build a "better bottom!" The results of our research and development identified important areas to address in the products we would offer: fit, fashion, form, function, fabric, the fabrication and finally, financial - financially attractive prices for our customers. We nicknamed our mission the "F" Principle. And don't forget, we are also planning for the future and are looking for your feedback. |

FIT and FASHION For both our men's and women's lines, we worked with our designers and patternmakers to develop a garment that would fit the body shape, be comfortable to wear, and still be fashionable. The fit and the design had to incorporate our all-important pads and create a natural look, a silhouette that was pleasing to all. We are especially pleased with our women's briefs for their attractive and form-fitting fit, unlike the girdle-like, full cut utilitarian look offered by so many of our competitors. An important addition to our design was our defining centre back seam, which enhances your cheeks to create a natural look, separating the pads as naturally as your actual bottom. The front pouch of our men's line, with its contoured shape, allows for plenty of room and comfort not offered in a lot of men's briefs. |

FABRIC and FABRICATION We embarked on a search for a high natural-content fabric with a lycra/spandex content to maintain the shape and provide the elasticity that would enable our briefs to hug the body and maintain their shape. We are very pleased with our buttery soft, high quality 92% brushed cotton jersey with an 8% lycra/spandex content as the right combination for durability, comfort and longevity. We are also adding the new miracle fabric BAMTEX to our line, with a 66% bamboo/28% cotton/6% spandex content. It's also easy to care for. We were fortunate to find a very experienced manufacturer who was willing to work with us with our particular needs, and not afraid to experiment along with us, providing many samples until we could come up with the right briefs that could produce and offer the affordability to our customers that we desired. |

FORM and FUNCTION With our design and patterns in place, the next most important part of our garments to address was our padding. It had to have the right shape, size and feel. Also, we saw the need for differently shaped padding for women and men. We wanted removeable and washable padding. Listening to our potential male customers, we also saw a need to offer choices in the thicknesses of pads. For women, our pads are injection-moulded specifically to our design and are anatomically correct to fit the natural contours of a woman's body. Our pads are covered in a soft mesh fabric that maintains the shape of the pad through wear and washing. We are also pleased to offer a men's pouch enhancement pad providing extra protection, comfort and confidence. We didn't want our ladies to feel left out, so we are also offering silicone push up pads and silicone nipple covers in our product lines. |
